Iguazu Falls (Foz de Iguacu), Brazil, 2006
Day Three (Part 2):

An early morning, off to the Argentina side of the Falls. Our driver picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the Argentina Border. Arriving at the border, he took our passports and took care of our crossing. We did have to get out of the car to wipe our feet on a pad to remove any contamination on the bottom of our shoes!

Continuing onward we reached the Argentina side of the falls. We agreed to meet our driver six hours later, figuring that would be plenty of time to see the falls - but as it ended up, we could have used even more time.

Again we decided to take the boat trip under the falls. A little less expensive than on the Brazilian side. We rode on the back of a truck down to the dock, again seeing the flora of the area. Getting on the boat we followed the same procedure, dry bags for our gear, etc. Again we could take photos approaching the falls, but even if I had a waterproof camera it would have been difficult to take photos while under the falls, the water pressure was so strong.

After several trips under the falls we returned to dock and then took another boat to cross the river to an island where we could get a different view of the falls. We walked to the top of the island and watched some of the birds flying around as well as getting a closer view of the different falls. We finally returned to the dock and walked up from the river to the top of the rim, taking photos along the way.

We then rode a 'small railroad train' to a different part of the park were we could walk to Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo). After getting off the train, we took the walkway out to the view. Along the way we were able to photograph birds, butterflies, and even a cayman with a butterfly sitting on its head! Some of the butterflies were so friendly they would land on our hand and stay there while we walked along the path.

Arriving at Devil's Throat the sound and mist were tremendous. The falls are over two hundred feet high, but you'll never see the bottom, the mist is just too strong. As the wind would change direction we would go from a dry sunny view to being in the middle of a mist cloud - made photography fun.

Took the train back to the entrance, met our driver, and went back through the border, following the same pattern as in the morning. Our driver had spent the day in Paraguay - the three countries, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet at the Falls - and the border town in Paraguay has excellent shopping with much lower prices than in Brazil.

Back to the hotel after another long, wet, but very enjoyable day.
