We flew from Manaus, through Brazilia, to Cuiaba where we spent the night. The next morning our ride met us at the
hotel and drove us to the offices of the lodge we were going to so we could finish the paperwork. We then headed out
to the Pantanal, stopping for a refreshment in a little town before reaching the TransPantanal Highway.
The TransPantanal Highway soon became a dirt road as we headed towards the
Pousada Araras Eco Lodge where we would stay for four nights. There were caymen and birds on the side of the road.
When we reached the lodge we were greated with a nice refreshment and shown to our room. Over the next four days we walked
on wooden paths above the swamps (and caymen) to the towers, the tall one was 80 feet high, drove on both the TransPantanal
Highway and the Lodge's property looking for wildlife, rode horses and canoed along a stream with piranaha in the water
below us. We also did night walks and truck rides looking for nocturnal wildlife.
As with the Pousada Aldeia dos Lagos, the meals were included and excellent.
After our four days we drove back to Cuiaba for the night and then caught a flight early in the morning for
the next part of our trip.
